After giving Steve Harvey the boot, Miss Universe has announced their new hosts for the pageant – and sadly, South Africa’s Bonang Matheba did not make the cut.

The beauty pageant – which takes place on Saturday, 14 January in New Orleans, USA – shared the news on their social media accounts.

WHO ARE THE MISS UNIVERSE HOSTS?

Last month, Steve Harvey parted ways as host of the Miss Universe pageant after five consecutive years.

The actor and entertainer was reportedly given the boot after the pageant moved to the streaming service Roku. According to Variety, the new channel wanted new, fresh blood – and in particular, a female to helm the show.

Now pageant organisers have since revealed their new hosts. They are former Miss USA and Miss Universe Olivia Culpo and TV host Jeannie Mai.

The pageant also announced backstage commentators Former Miss Universe and Miss Philippines Catriona Gray and TV presenter Zuri Hall.

Before the announcement, Mzansi’s own Bonang Matheba was revealed as a hot contender for the host position.

The South African media personality has previously hosted Miss South Africa, the Global Citizen show, and numerous other awards shows and corporate gigs.

MZANSI REACTS AFTER BONANG IS ‘SNUBBED’

Following the snub, South African social media users flooded the announcement’s comment section. They also verbally attacked new Miss Universe CEO Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip.

Interestingly, tweeps pointed out how three of the four women were US citizens.

@DJMaverickZA: “Miss Universe, you’ve made the whole African continent angry for not choosing Bonang Matheba as a main host. Seventy-one years later, and still no African representation. Why? So disappointed”

@OG_Nkosinathi: “It’s actually very disappointing. You don’t listen to the people at all as you claim to do so. Bonang Matheba is the perfect host for Miss Universe, but clearly you people are too blind to see that.”

@Brian_kuse: “Did you research Bonang? She is a good host. Or maybe you didn’t want to choose her because she is from Africa?”

@Misokuhle_L: “Bonang would’ve eaten this gig up. Not to mention the numbers she’ll pull. That girl is a powerhouse. Africans wanted Bonang, and you didn’t even bother looking her up because if you did, the results would be different!”

@Samke_Makhoba: “This seems bought instead of researched. Miss Universe missed an opportunity to elevate its reputation further. Bonang was not going to step into Steve Harvey’s shoes but set her heels next to his because they have the same energy. Such a mistake!”
