South African professional mixed martial artist Dricus Du Plessis is official an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight world champion. His victory has been widely celebrated by his fellow South Africans who are still riding the wave of the Springboks’ win. Thousands have headed online to congratulate Dricus — Springbok champion Ox Nché included.

Taking to X, Ox shared a hearty message with the UFC champ.

Ox Nché congratulates Dricus

On Sunday 21 January this year, South Africa’s Dricus du Plessis became SA’s first UFC middleweight world champion.

The mixed martial arts fighter beat former champion Sean Strickland after a gruelling five-round match early this morning.

The UFC 297 fight took place at the Scotiabank Arena in Ontario, Canada.

Many South Africans have celebrated his victory and haven’t stopped singing his praises online. Thousands of people have shared heartwarming congratulatory messages as they discuss the rise of SA sports stars.

Springbok star Ox Nche is one of this people. Taking to X, he wrote:

“Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie,” wrote Ox, referencing Dricus’ famous statement about SA sports stars who are often perceived as the underdogs.

In the comment, many joined Ox in wishing Dricus well. A lot of them praised the sports stars for representing their country so well on a global level.

“I hope the airport packs out when our guy lands on home soil!!!,” one person asked while another wrote:
