Bad taste? Khune likes ‘joke’ about Oscar Pistorius

Insensitive: Itumeleng Khune is one of many who found humour in an Oscar Pistorius ‘joke’ about murdering Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day.

Itumeleng Khune is one of many South Africans being called out for liking a joke about Oscar Pistorius, who killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013.

The former Paralympian was released on parole last month after serving half of his murder sentence behind bars.

According to his version of events, Oscar mistook Reeva for a late-night intruder in his Pretoria mansion.

OSCAR PISTORIUS ‘JOKES’ TAKE OVER SOCIAL MEDIA

Eleven years ago, the world was rocked by headlines that the former Olympic gold-medallist had shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The incident took place in the early house of Valentine’s Day morning.

On social media, South Africans have already started rolling out their annual Oscar Pistorius and Valentine’s Day jokes and memes.

One popular Instagram meme page shared a meme about Pistorius that read: “This is the time Oscar Pistorius was cleaning his gun.”

And liking the joke was Kaizer Cheifs player Itumeleng Khune.

In the comment section, many admonished the page for their poor taste.

KEEPING A LOW PROFILE AMID PAROLE

Meanwhile, Oscar Pistorius has kept a low profile following his release on parole on 5 January. The 37-year-old is residing at the Waterkloof mansion of his uncle, Arnold Pistorius.

According to AFP, he has been given a five-year suspended sentence. 

Some of his parole conditions include:

  • Attend anger management classes and programmes on gender-based violence and rehabilitation
  • Not being able to leave Pretoria without the permission of arthritis
  •  Regularly reporting to a community correction centre.
  • The conditions will remain in place until 2029, when his sentence expires.
