GABUZA BACK IN COURT IN MARCH

The 36-year-old former Orlando Pirates footballer, who was released on R3 000 bail, will reappear in court on 28 March.

Gabuza was arrested in November last year for allegedly smashing three cellphones and a laptop belonging to his partner, Zikhona Zode. In January, he missed his court appearance due to illness.

During the court proceedings, Magistrate Bulelani Mbeleni told Gabuza’s lawyer, Themba Ngobeni, that he accepts the medical certificate presented before court.

“We accept this letter about his last month of missing the court. We’d also like to cancel the warrant of arrest that was given out to him,” Mbeleni said.

ITEMS WORTH R50 000

In a statement, the South African Police Service (SAPS) explained that on 11 November, Gabuza visited his ex-girlfriend at her home in Sandton where the incident allegedly took place.

“The complainant said Gabuza allegedly asked her for sex but then she refused. It is then that the soccer star became aggressive and roughly pushed her against the wall towards her bedroom.

“The complainant allegedly managed to free herself and ran back to the lounge. Gabuza is accused of following her, snatching her cellphones and smashing them against the wall.”

The items are said to be worth R50 000.
