The divorce process between former celeb couple Sonia and Matthew Booth has reportedly hit a snag.

According to ZiMoja, Sonia’s friend has revealed that the delay is being caused by the former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns defender.

MATTHEW AND SONIA BOOTH’S DIVORCE DELAYED

The source alleged that Booth has not yet submitted his financial statement to the court, as per Sonia’s court application in May 2023.

“Booth appealed the court’s decision but later decided to withdraw the appeal. Now he is stalling the process and he risks another approach of the courts by Sonia to file a motion of contempt of court,” said the friend.

According to the source, Sonia wants the divorce process over and done with because delays are eating away at their joint estate.

“The only thing I can think of as a concerned friend is about Sonia’s well-being given how unnecessary the delays are. The divorce could’ve been finalised months ago had the legend submitted financial statements as ordered by the court. Now Sonia knows Booth is hiding a lot more. Why else would he make excuses about submitting the other two-year bank statements the court ordered him to submit?” asked the source.

When called for a comment, Sonia said: “I don’t want to comment on an ongoing legal matter, especially considering it is an unnecessary costly exercise eating away at our joint estate. I wish for the decree to be granted as in yesterday so I can close this chapter of my life and move on.”

CHEATING ALLEGATIONS AND MATTHEW BOOTH’S RESPONSE

Their divorce comes after the 2001 Miss South Africa second princess accused the SuperSport analyst of having an affair in November 2022.

In a lengthy rant on her social media accounts, Sonia shared evidence to support her claims on her estranged husband’s alleged cheating escapades which allegedly started in February that year.

According to Sonia, Booth had been using their joint bank account and her vehicle, which has a tracker in it, to spend quality time with Mthombeni-Moller. The two allegedly took a road trip to Empangeni in KwaZulu-Natal; they spent Valentine’s Day together and also had lunch dates. She also claimed that the ex-Bafana Bafana star baked a cheesecake cake, for his alleged girlfriend, on the eve of their son’s birthday that they thought they would feast on as a family.

In response to the allegations, Booth released a statement claiming the allegations were “unfounded”. Mthombeni-Moller also denied the accusations in a court application seeking an order to compel Sonia to remove the allegedly defamatory statements from her social media accounts – Sunday World reported in December 2022.

However, Sonia won the case with costs.

“It was a win [with costs] for the so-called urgent interdict for me to remove my social media posts and to apologise publicly,” she said.

In January this year, Mthombeni-Moller (who has reportedly separated from her husband, Klaus Moller) made her relationship with Booth Instagram official. She shared photographs as they attended Booth’s sister Bronwyn’s wedding together.
