Sasha Lifestyle in Thembisa, Johannesburg, is calling out King Monada, real name Khutso Steven Kgatle, for bailing on a December gig despite pocketing a hefty R60,000. This comes after Monada faced heavy criticism for not compensating security personnel and bouncers at his Seshego, Limpopo, one-man show.

THEIR EFFORTS ARE MET WITH SILENCE

According to ZiMoja, it was a highly publicised event which makes this situation even more complicated. The venue’s management gave the details to ZiMoja on the ongoing struggle to get a response from King Monada and his crew about the missed performance.

Sasha’s team, known for hosting top artists, are trying to fend off any bad press, as their credibility is now on the line. “We are considered liars by our clientele who trust us,” Sasha’s management states.

They also revealed that their attempts to reschedule have fallen on deaf ears.

“Our people come for the great service, the amazing music and great food while they chill and have their cars washed. There are very few artists who don’t live up to their word. We first offered that King Monada comes back to the venue at a later date but he has been ignoring all communication.”

NOT HIS FIRST CONTROVERSY

This isn’t King Monada’s first rodeo with no-shows. He previously ghosted the Limpopo Legends Awards (Lila) in Polokwane during the holidays, and this sparked serious legal threats.

Monada’s manager, Albert Makwela, promised to look into the matter but denied any outstanding funds, saying, “We try and keep a diary of all our gigs. If there is an issue, we will investigate and do the right thing.”

In fact, King Monada’s career has not exactly been on a clean slate – in 2022, a viral video showed him giving a fan a slap at Industrial Shisanyama in Polokwane. According to his manager, he said he felt violated because the fan he slapped was touching his genitals during his performance.

However, he apologised, acknowledging that he could have handled that situation differently. In spite of that apology, this incident only added to the growing list of controversies around Monada, raising eyebrows about his professional conduct.
