Mbonambi was outstanding in leading the Springboks in their first RWC games when Siya Kolisi was absent.
He showed his other side that not many fans knew much about; they thought it was Siya leading.
As the competition continued, he made headlines again after the semifinal against England.

England star Tom Curry accused Mbonambi of racially abusing him, and England backed him.
World Rugby investigated the case but found insufficient evidence to charge Mbonambi.

After the World Cup, the Springboks vice captain showed his new car, the brand new Pajero.
Besides that, Bongi had shown some of his previous cars in some of his Instagram posts.
