If you were part of “Parent Twitter” who were bullied into buying your child a Prime drink for R40 – or more – you’ll surely be kicking yourself right now. Like media personality Anele Mdoda, many X users are livid after Checkers marked the energy drink down to just R10!

After its official launch in South Africa last year, the retailer introduced the beverage – created by YouTubers Logan Paul and KSI – to the market for R40. Before that, some parents will spend hundreds, if not thousands, on getting stock into the country by any means possible.

CHECKERS DROPS PRICE OF PRIME

In pictures posted on social media, Checkers is seen running a “5 for R50” promotion of Prime beverages.

Less than a year ago,  shoppers – and their kids – came out in droves to stock up on Prime, which Checkers introduced to the market for R40.

The grocer enforced a strict limited quantity per customer: a maximum of 8 x 500ml units per day.

In pics and clips posted on X, many consumers were seen braving early opening hours, long queues, and even stampedes to stockpile the newest “it” product.

According to their site, the ordinary price of energy drink is now R19.99 – half the price of when it was first introduced on shelves.

ANELE MDODA AND ‘PARENT TWITTER’ ARE ANNOYED

Meanwhile, Anele Mdoda is seeing red after learning that Prime is now just R10.

The 947 presenter tweeted: “PRIME is now on sale for R10. I am a size medium in red noses in case you want to complete my clown outfit”.

Others agreed

In a segment of her morning show last April, Anele recounted how her son Alakhe took her on a wild goose chase to get the must-have item.

Shockingly, Anele paid R500 for just one bottle of the drink!

Describing as an “Energade that went to an Ivy League university.” She added: “It tasted like rubbish…and of course I took it!”
