Disgraced Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius “may have to sweep the floors of his local church and park cars for the congregation to appease his parole officers”, Daily Mail UK reported. This comes after the convicted killer was released from Atteridgeville Correctional Centre in Pretoria on Friday, 5 January.

OSCAR PISTORIUS TO SWEEP CHURCH FLOORS AND PARK CARS ON PAROLE?

The Department of Corrections said Oscar Pistorius will be constantly monitored by parole officials for the next five years. He will live under correctional supervision until his sentence expires in December 2029.

The former Olympic runner may have swapped his prison cell for a cottage in his uncle’s property in the exclusive Waterkloof suburb in Pretoria, but he still has some strict rules to follow while he serves the remaining years of his 13-year and five-month culpable homicide sentence.

The 37-year-old parolee, who is also known as the Blade Runner because of the speed at which he could sprint on his carbon-fibre prosthetic limbs, is allegedly expected to “clean a local hospital, auxiliary duties at a police station, or return to prison to help warders with maintenance”, as part of his community service, the publication reported. Netizens were convinced that Pistorius’ community service options were “not enough” and wanted him to receive harsher punishments for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp.

“Parole does not mean the end of the sentence. It is still part of the sentence. It only means the inmate will complete the sentence outside a correctional facility,” Time Magazine quoted the Department of Corrections spokesman, Singabakho Nxumalo, as saying.
