A young pageant queen has praised Bryoni Govender for not covering up her stretch marks during the Miss Universe swimsuit parade.

A young pageant queen has praised Bryoni Govender for proudly showing off her stretch marks during the swimsuit round of the Miss Universe pageant this weekend.

Despite the South African beauty not progressing into the Top 10, she has inspired many women to be their authentic selves.

PAGEANT QUEEN THANKS BRYONI

In an open letter, pageant queen Sinesipho Givuza, crowned Miss Western Cape in 2020, thanked Bryoni Govender for being her role model.

In particular, the young woman shared how she was pleasantly surprised after Bryoni chose not to cover up her stretch marks in the Miss Universe swimsuit category.

She shared: “The pageant industry preaches perfection. And anything that threatens to disturb the rule of perfection needs to be airbrushed, covered up with layers of makeup…..so forth and so forth.

“But here you are, on one of the biggest pageant platforms, showing all of who you are. You did it so proudly, so confidently, so gracefully.

“You strutted across the Miss Universe stage, baring your beautiful tiger stripes without missing a single beat. Thank you for not hiding them under layers of makeup.

She added: “What you did was boost the confidence of many pageant girls (myself included) who hide their “imperfections*in pursuit of pageant perfection.”

PLANS AFTER MISS UNIVERSE 

Meanwhile, Bryoni Govender has revealed her plans to pursue charity work through her organisation Her Way Out, which offers legal advice to empower women.

She said in a statement: “The support has been overwhelming, and I so appreciate it. I am looking forward to returning to South Africa and continuing with my advocacy drive.”

Despite not winning the crown for the fourth time, Miss SA CEO Stephanie Weil praised Bryoni for representing Mzansi to the world.       

She said: “She [Bryoni] has already been acknowledged by Miss Universe for her incredible campaign, and we look forward to continue rolling it out in South Africa on her return.”
