Nigeria’s Nwabali praises Ronwen Williams: ‘He deserves it’ [watch]

Despite the fierce rivalry between Nigeria and SA, Stanley Nwabali has conceded that Bafana’s Ronwen Williams is more ‘deserving’ than him.

Despite being pitted against each other as fierce rivals, Nigeria’s Stanley Nwabali had nothing but praise for Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

The Chippa United player even admitted that his PSL colleague was “deserving” of Afcon’s Golden Glove award.

Ivory Coast beat Nigeria 2-1 in an explosive Afcon final on Sunday, 12 February.

NIGERIA’S STANLEY NWABALI PRAISES SA GOALKEEPER

In a post-match interview, Stanley Nwabali sang Ronwen Williams’s praises.

“He’s a good goalkeeper, to be honest. It’s not a loss to me….he deserved it. I’m competing with this kind of guy. I wish him well. I give him credit”.

Over the weekend, Ronwen made Bafana Bafana history as the only goalkeeper to have five clean sheets during a tournament. He also beat Nwabali, who had four clean sheets during the Afcon tournament

Ronwen also made history by becoming the first goalkeeper to save four penalties in a single AFCON tournament.

‘I STILL LOVE SOUTH AFRICA’

Meanwhile, Stanley Nwabali has revealed that he has a lot of love for South Africa, where he plays in the PSL club Chippa United.

The 27-year-old has faced cyberbullying following Nigeria’s defeat against Bafana Bafana in the semi-finals earlier this week.

In an X post, he shared: “No love lost at all. I still love South Africa as much as their fans love me, and I love this team [Nigeria] with all my heart”.
