Nigeria’s Stanley Nwabali has confirmed he will return to South African PSL club Chippa United after Afcon, despite warnings not to.

The Super Eagles goalkeeper has been on the receiving end of nasty online taunts in recent days.

This, after the 27-year-old helped Nigeria defeat Bafana Bafana in the Afcon semi-final last week.

Sadly, Stanley and his team lost out on Afcon victory after Ivory Coast beat them 2-1 in an explosive final on Sunday, 12 February.

NWABALI CONFIRMS CHIPPA UNITED RETURN, DESPITE WARNINGS

Speaking in a post-match interview, Stanley Nwabali confirmed he will return to South Africa to his home club at, Chippa United.

He said: “It’s my club. I must go back to my club.”

Just a few days prior, former Super Eagles player Idah Peterside warned his former colleague to be wary of what awaits him.

He told Channels Television: “The biggest problem we have had is that we have gotten some messages where people have sent messages to the goalkeeper threatening him. I hear some people are telling him not to come back to South Africa since you didn’t want us to score. 

“We have not heard of any violence. But just threats. They have been threatening him and threatening some people,

MOVING ABROAD?

While Chippa United are ready to welcome him back with open arms, Stanley Nwabali’s agent has confirmed interest in the player from abroad.

Mohammed Nawal claimed that the goalkeeper had received interest from clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia.
