AmaZulu striker Bongi Ntuli ‘died on his wedding day’

Bonginkosi ‘Bongi’ Ntuli passed away on Sunday, 5 November, at the age of 32 after being diagnosed with cancer.

It had been two months since AmaZulu star Bongi Ntuli and the football club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sinenjabulo Zungu’s white wedding when the striker passed away.

AMAZULU’S BONGI NTULI WAS PREPARING FOR HIS TRADITIONAL WEDDING

Ntuli succumbed to an aggressive cancer on Sunday, 5 November, which, according to a source who spoke to Zimoja, was their traditional wedding day.

The source said that the Zungu and Ntuli families had penned the first weekend of November for Umabo – a process within the Zulu traditional wedding, Udwendwe/Umgcagco, where the bride presents the groom’s family with gifts.

According to the source, Ntuli – who had complained of chest pains on Thursday – was rushed to the Midlands Medical Centre.

In September, the publication reported that the footballer fell ill 3 weeks after his white wedding whilst in Polokwane when AmaZulu played against Polokwane City. At the time, he was rushed to Netcare facility in Durban where he was immediately transferred to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital, also in Durban for urgent surgery.

STATEMENT FROM USUTHU

In a statement on Sunday, the football club announced Ntuli’s passing calling him a loyal servant.

“It is with a very heavy heart that we inform you of the untimely passing of our beloved centre-forward and loyal servant, Bonginkosi Ntuli,” read the statement.

AmaZulu disclosed that Ntuli succumbed to cancer.

“Ntuli was (very recently) diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, which metastasized and ultimately led to his death at the Midlands Medical Centre Private Hospital, in Pietermaritzburg this afternoon.

“May his beautiful soul rest in eternal peace. The club requests privacy and patience be granted his family and friends at this difficult time.”
