Actress Leleti Khumalo and her Imbewu: The Seed cast members recently stole the hearts of Mzansi when they re-enacted the Sarafina dance routine on set.

While fans of the show were in awe of everyone from the show, it was Leleti Khumalo who stole the show.

‘Sarafina’: Leleti Khumalo leads ‘Imbewu: The Seed’ cast

The actress, who played the role of Sarafina in Sarafina, led the cast of the e.tv soapie just like in the original film. The iconic 1990s film gave Khumalo her big break and is still one of the most-talked-about films in Mzansi, especially with Youth Day approaching on Wednesday June 16.

The channel shared the video of the cast members dancing in their school uniform on their social media channels last week. The 49-year-old actress who is also a co-executive producer of Imbewu: The Seed, was just as exceptional as she was 20 years ago with her footwork.

She wowed Mzansi with her moves, her energy and proved that she still has the voice of the young character she played in the iconic film.

The film also stars Hollywood actress Whoopi Goldberg, who played the role of Mary Masombuka. Khumalo told Sowetan that working with a big star such as Goldberg made her so nervous that she actually got physically sick.

“I was working with Whoopi Goldberg…I immediately got sick. I was trembling, sweating, literally feeling at my worst.”

The actress also told Sowetan that people still refer to her as Sarafina. This despite her roles in films, such as Yesterday and soapies Generations and Uzalo.

Currently, the actress plays the role of MaZulu on Imbewu: The Seed which is e.tv’s third most-watched show.

She stated in an interview with Sowetan:

“I’ve had a few bumps here and there, but I have been growing within the industry. I had no idea that I would end up as a producer because all I wanted was to be a South African actor. I was fortunate enough to have starred on an international production.”

Watch Leleti Khumalo as MaZulu on Imbewu: The Seed from Monday to Friday on e.tv at 21:30.
