Lady Colin Campbell, known as Lady C, the Jamaican-born British writer, socialite and television and radio personality who has published eight books about the British royal family, recently said that Princess Anne had ‘grave concerns’ over Prince Harry marrying Meghan Markle.

Lady C on Meghan Markle

Ever since Meghan and Harry gave their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, many are wondering who is behind the claims that a member of the royal family expressed concern over baby Archie’s skin colour. Now, the former I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here star and royal biographer lashed out in a 38-minute video published to YouTube.

According to Birmingham Mail, in the video, she alleges that Princess Anne believed the Duchess of Sussex to be “unsuitable”.

“Princess Anne was the champion in terms of ‘don’t marry that girl, she is unsuitable’,” she said. “‘She is wrong for us, she is wrong for the country, she is wrong for the job’. Well, it’s turned out to be true.

“There were no concerns about Meghan’s colour. Princess Anne was rightly concerned that if the marriage proceeded and there were children, there would be huge problems, not because of Meghan’s colour, but because of Meghan’s inability and determination to remain unable to appreciate the cultural differences, and to actually have respect for the institution into which she was going to marry,” the author claimed.

Meghan was ‘flagrantly attention-seeking’

Lady C also alleged that Anne – the Queen’s second child and only daughter – thought Meghan was “flagrantly attention-seeking”.

“It just absolutely turned Princess Anne off. Because she couldn’t stand Meghan’s constant ‘uh, uh, me, me me, me’.”

The palace claps back

After Harry and Meghan’s interview, the palace released an official statement attesting that “the issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning” while also claiming that “some recollections may vary”. The full statement reads;

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”

Prince William has also responded to the claims, telling a paparazzo that the royal family are “very much not a racist family”.
