Kelly Khumalo’s song ‘Asine’ under the spotlight again

It’s been a rough last couple of months for South African songstress Kelly Khumalo as the Senzo Meyiwa trial drags on.

Many eyes have been cast upon her as locals discuss her relationship with the soccer player and the suspicious circumstances surrounding his death in October 2014.

Shortly before his passing, Kelly performed her new single Asine — a Tshivenḓa song which translates to ‘It’s not me’ — on Robert Marawa’s TNL show. With her in studio at the time was Senzo.

Explaining to Marawa the meaning of the song she said ” It’s a song about a woman who is accused of killing her husband, so during the court case she kept saying it’s not me, it’s not me.”

“I am speaking on behalf of that woman, she is accused, we don’t know if she did it. There are so many cases of such if you were to pass on( referring to Marawa) the woman in your life would be the number one suspect.”

Locals are super suspicious

For many, the song’s lyrics are too coincidental to be ignored. Many of them questioned why the song came out right before Meyiwa was murdered.

Here are some of their comments:

“R Kelly sang about his shenanigans, how did we miss the message in the music. Unbelievable!” one person wrote.

Another added, “If you listen carefully people usually tell on themselves.”

“Iv said it before, she planned it. I remember her performing that song on SABC Laduma and Senzo was a guest,” a third wrote.
