Armed robbers pull heist on prophet Bushiri’s congregation

Armed robbers targeted Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s church in Mpumalanga on Saturday, taking the congregation’s bank cards, phones, and more.

The self-proclaimed prophet, Shepherd Bushiri’s congregation of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church in Mpumalanga was left shaken after armed robbers took their time to pull a heist on them at the venue on Saturday, 11 August, iHarare reported.

PROPHET SHEPHERD BUSHIRI’S CHURCH ROBBED AT GUNPOINT

The heist took place during a night vigil, the publication reported. Three robbers were said to have boldly busted through the doors and attacked the congregation with their demands.

“While still waiting for other members, three robbers armed with handguns and their faces covered stormed the church,” police spokesperson Brig Selvy Mohlala was quoted as saying.

The unknown robbers reportedly walked away with an undisclosed sum of cash, 14 cell phones, and bank cards belonging to the victims at the church. The criminals are said to have also taken the church members’ bank cards and demanded their pins before fleeing off with a vehicle belonging to one of the victims.

Fortunately, the stolen VW Polo Vivo was reportedly recovered about seven kilometres from the crime scene abandoned at Mzinti.

MORE ABOUT THE ROBBERY

Mpumalanga police are investigating the robbery that’s said to have taken place around 21:30, The Citizen reported. According to the publication, police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala revealed that 10 members of the church were present during the robbery as they waited for other members of the church to arrive.

Echoing the words of Mpumalanga SAPS boss, Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, Mohlala was quoted as saying.

“The general said Mpumalanga police will never allow criminals to walk freely and promised to get those behind the robbery behind bars soon.”
