Siphelele Mthembu, formerly of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, had one of his best career spells at Platinum Stars, and it was the same period he abstained from relationships.

FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS STRIKER SIPHELELE MTHEMBU SUGGESTS HAVING A GIRLFRIEND IS A DISTRACTION

According to the Pretoria Callies striker, his very best career seasons were in Rustenburg with the now-defunct Platinum Stars. It was where he was at his most focused, disciplined, blessed, and where he maintained abstinence from dating.

“So the reason I played my best football at Platinum was the environment, diet, praying and worshipping God together,” Mthembu said via FARPost.

“Also, the bunch of players who are willing to work for each other. Personally, I went two years just focusing on training, eating healthy, sleeping well and recovering.

“I was just focused because I wasn’t playing before I moved to Platinum Stars.

“I made sure I didn’t have a girlfriend for two years to keep my body fresh and recover quickly,” the 35-year-old from Meltmoth, KwaZulu-Natal, added.

“So my thoughts were good, my energy was also good. I had good players like Robert Ng’ambi, Mogakolodi Ngele, Benson Mhlongo and Vuyo Mere,” the former Chiefs number nine added.

A MESSAGE TO THE YOUNGSTERS

Additionally, Mthembu has sent a plea to upcoming players to avoid certain behaviours, including the use of muti.

Speaking to one of the most revered journalists in local football, Mahlatsi Mphahlele, Mthembu urged young players to keep a distance from hazards like unhealthy eating, ignorance, and muti.
