Jay Anstey on ‘DIY delivery’: ‘I was in a deep trance’ [photo]

Jay Anstey delving into motherhood after having the “perfect” birthing experience – delivering her own baby.

The Legacy SA actress has shared her own account of having a “free birth” or “DIY birth” after choosing not to deliver her baby in a hospital or with medical personnel.

The 30-year-old actress is the proud mom of newborn Ayla after welcoming the baby girl with partner Sean-Marco in December 2021.

Jay Anstey and Sean-Marc play the characters of play the roles of Lexi and Stefan respectively in the M-Net telenovela.

JAY ANSTEY SHARES FREEBIRTH EXPERIENCE

Taking to Instagram, Jay Anstey revealed her experience of choosing “No doctors, no midwife and doula and no interference”.

The star reveals how she awoke in the middle of the night with intense contractions.

She wrote: “We had an app that timed my contractions and Sean-Marco along with my mom and dad started filling up the birth pool as they were rapidly getting closer together.

“After a few hours of walking around (and throwing up twice from pain) I felt it was time to get into the water. It was me and Sean-Marco in a pool.

Jay Anstey recalls what happened of the next 10 hours.

“Breathing through each excruciating contraction. As the hours passed i was now deep in a ‘trance’ focussing on breathing and remaining calm. I felt as she moved into the birthing canal and even though it was very difficult I didn’t push, I just breathed.

“Ten hours had passed and just when I thought I couldn’t handle the pain any longer I felt she was ready to come. Enter ‘the ring of fire’ – yes it literally feels like it’s on fire  – I pushed for 3 contractions and my incredible partner, Sean-Marco, delivered our darling daughter into the world. 

“His hands were the first to touch her and the only faces she looked upon were those of her family. She cried beautifully, we checked her vitals and she was happy and perfect”.

PRAISE FOR SUPPORTIVE PARTNER

Unfortunately Jay Anstey had to seek medical treatment in the hospital after her placenta failed to naturally expel itself.

“So I had to head to the hospital to remove the placenta surgically. I wasn’t upset that I ended up in hospital because I gave our little one the birth she deserved”.

She also heaped praise on her partner, who essentially helped deliver their baby.

“I was so supported by Sean-Marco and I don’t think many men could’ve done what he did. An incredible dedication to parenting and partnership. What a man”.

Jay Anstey reveals that she would choose the experience again, if she had the choice

“100%…Everything I had wanted for her. Her perfect birth”, she said of the experience.
