Former President Jacob Zuma R246 million homestead is best known as the Nkandla homestead in KwaZulu-Natal. In recent years, the Nkandla homestead has made all sorts of headlines for the wrong reason.

The mansion is located 24 km south of Nkandla town. However, the mansion has since been renovated and extended in recent years. Well, its million-rand upgrades during his time in power have been controversial.

A DIVE INTO JACOB ZUMA’s HOMESTEAD FEATURES

According to BBC News, the homestead boasts several amenities, including an amphitheatre. The entire residence is encircled with a high-end security fence. It also has several houses of some close relatives apart from the main house.

Other outstanding additions include a visitor’s lounge that has hosted several officials, like Police Minister Bheke Cele and EFF President Julius Malema. The Nkandla mansion also has a well-maintained football pitch and swimming pools. Apart from that, it boasts around with a helipad.

Reports have it that it also has a mobile military clinic which came as part of the upgrades. However, the former President has distanced himself from commenting on the Nkandla homestead upgrades in recent years.

THE CONTROVERSY BEHIND NKANDLA HOMESTEAD UPGRADES

Even years later, the actual price tag of Nkandla remains a mystery. Well, in the backdrop of its security upgrades, Mail & Guardian has it that the overhaul of the mansion came at the cost of R246-million.

However, in the mix of things, the government insisted that the upgrades were purely for security reasons. It is a shocker as the aerial view shows an amphitheatre, cattle enclosure and swimming pool.
