Over the past few months German influencer and model Nara Smith has gone viral on Tik Tok after giving fans snippets of her life as a young wife and mom of two. When it comes to the cont she shares on Tik Tok Nara has shared some Get Ready With Me videos, her snack obsessions and most notably videos of herself cooking home made meals for her family.
Now while her videos have been addictive, Nara has been at the centre of internet discourse. Why you ask? Well many on social media have questioned the validity of Nara being a “tradtional wife”. Some have even gone to the extent of calling Nara and the content she shares to be performative and in turn calling her a trophy wife.
As reported by SK POP, Tik Tok user @professorneil discussed Nara Smith’s lifestyle specifically commenting on a video she uploaded online where she was seen making cereal from scratch.
“They’re not better than us because they can make their children cereal from scratch. They’re better than us because they are so wealthy and well-off that they have nothing more important to worry about. These videos [Nara Smith’s cereals TikTok video] are not instructional. They are maybe aspirational but they are always performative. This is not real labor, this is symbolic labor. It is nothing more than social signaling that this woman and her family belong to the leisure class”, he said.
He continued: “Her value is instead in her ability to perform the role of trophy wife and to be the ultimate realization and personification of her husband’s socioeconomic prowess”.
While there’s a lot to dissect about the new wave of traditional wives on social media, here are some interesting facts about the Tik Tok influencer.
