JAY LENO FILES FOR A CONSERVATORSHIP OVER HIS WIFE

According to People magazine, Jay Leno made the filing on Friday, 26 January. In the court documents he noted that the conservatorship was initiated to set up a living trust for Mavis. This is to ensure that she has “managed assets” to provide her with future care if he died before her.

Leno noted that his wife gave her consent for the establishment of the conservatorship. He also shared that Mavis does not prefer another person to act as conservator.

The former late night TV host also asked the judge that Mavis not be present to attend the court hearing on the conservatorship, stating that it would be “detrimental to her mental and physical health”.

This is reportedly the first time Jay has opened up about his wife’s medical condition.

“Unfortunately, Mavis has been progressively losing capacity and orientation to space and time for several years. As Mavis’s current condition renders her incapable of executing the estate plan, Jay has petitioned the Court to be appointed conservator of Mavis’s estate for the sole purpose of filing a petition for substituted judgment on her behalf in order to ensure her desires concerning the disposition of her assets upon her death are realized”, court documents read.

‘IT JUST SEEMED LIKE THE RIGHT THING TO DO’

Jay and Mavis have been married for 43 years.

In 2022 Jay recovered from second and third degree burns after a gasoline fire. Leno had reportedly been working on a steam engine underneath a car in his garage when the fire broke out.

In December 2022, Jay made an appearance on the Today show, where he shared how concerned he was about his wife during the ordeal. Despite being told by doctors to go straight to a hospital, Jay decided to go home first.

“My wife doesn’t drive anymore, and I didn’t want her stuck and not knowing what was going on. It just seemed like the right thing to do, and I think it was”, he shared.
