‘Yoh it feels so surreal’: Tyla reacts to ‘Water’s’ rapid success

South African songstress Tyla is still in awe of the success that she has recently garnered with the release of her hit single, Water.

‘I FEEL SO BLESSED’

In a new interview with Los Angeles based radio station, Power 106, Tyla opens up about her musical journey and musical influences.

“Ever since I was small, I knew that this was what I wanted. I just knew it! My mother would always make me sing, at every wedding and every get-together”, the singer shared.

Tyla also talked about the success of her song Water. When asked about how she feels Tyla quickly beamed with excitement, noting how “surreal” this moment feels for her.

“Yoh, it feels so surreal. It doesn’t feel like this is happening. I sometimes have to remind myself that it’s actually happening”, the South African performer shared.

Tyla continued by noting how honoured she feels to be at the forefront of African music in this present moment.

“I feel so blessed to be an artist who is at the forefront of African music, especially [now] at this time”, Tyla said.

TYLA CONTINUES TO FLY SOUTH AFRICA’S FLAG HIGH

Over the past few months Tyla has been making waves. Not only has she been making history on the Billboard charts, but the budding artist has been nominated for a BET Soul Train Award. Tyla also made her American television debut performing on the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where she performed her hit song Water.

Tyla has also been nominated for a Grammy award, under the Best New Artist category.

When asked about how she reacted to news of her Grammy nomination, Tyla tells host Justin Credible how she wasn’t expecting to be nominated considering how new she is to the industry.

“I was screaming! I was jumping and screaming. I honestly wasn’t expecting it at all. I’m so new and other artists have been around for a while, so when I saw my name, I was like ‘Okayyyyy'”, she noted.

Tyla continued: “But at the same time, it kind of makes sense. Water has done so much. It has reached so many different countries; it has crossed so many borders. So, I’m just excited to see how far it goes”.
