Matthew Perry’s ex criticised over timing of ‘addiction’ post

Matthew Perry’s ex-fiance Molly Hurwitz has faced criticism from fans and readers after she broke her silence about the death of Matthew Perry. She was engaged to the Friends actor who passed away on the 29th of October 2023.

Hurwitz, who is a literary manager for a huge agency near Hollywood, was engaged to the actor famed for his role as Chandler in the sitcom Friends. The two were engaged for two years before they split in 2021.

Matthew Perry was found unresponsive after suffering from a type of drowning, according to paramedics. Although there’s been no evidence of foul play, Hurwitz touched on their loving but complicated relationship in an Instagram post.

MATTHEW PERRY COMPLICATED ROMANCE

Her final note to Perry on Instagram touched on the more fragile parts of their ended relationship. Perry’s battles with addiction are said to have put a strain on their engagement and she alluded to them as she said, “I obviously knew a man who was in a very different way too. While I loved him deeper than I could comprehend, he was complicated and he caused pain like I’d never known.

Many users on X and Reddit accused her of being insensitive by choosing this time to discuss his personal battles. A critic on Reddit mentioned, “They were broken up. It would have made more sense if she had written this when they were together, or freshly broken up.” while another on X mentioned “The timing of this couldn’t be worse, this statement feels off”

However, one user summed it up best when they said, “Every single word this woman wrote makes sense if you’ve been in a similar situation. She really didn’t do anything horrible writing what she wrote. She’s clearly in deep pain based on her recommendation of Al Anon which is a support group for loved ones of addicts.”

‘PERRY REDISCOVERED HIS BRILLIANCE’ AHEAD OF ‘FRIENDS’ REUNION

Horwutz did have positive memories about her partner and recalls how, in the weeks leading up to the 2021 Friends reunion episode they watched old tapes of the series as Matthew Perry beamed at his brightest scenes and funniest lines.

She described that part of their relationship in a fond light when she said, “Our respect and humour is what connected us, being with him as he rediscovered his brilliance was magical”.
