Kabelo Motsamai, popularly known by his stage name Prince Kaybee, joined the judging panel of Idols SA season 17 which premiered on Sunday 11 July at 17:30 on Mzansi Magic, channel 161.

Mzansi Magic dubbed Prince Kaybee as “The Fresh Prince of Idols SA” as he joined Randall Abrahams, Somizi Mhlongo and Unathi Nkayi on the judging panel for the kick off, of season 17 of the popular reality series

The singing competition is open to contestants between the ages of 16 and 30 and aims to determine who is the best young singer in South Africa.

“It’s not often that our judges are joined by royalty, but with locally-renowned and internationally lauded Prince Kaybee joining us as guest judge we’re rolling out the red carpet and shining the spotlight on him,” according to a statement by Mzansi Magic.

Prince Kaybee took to social media to share the news ahead of the broadcast.

“See y’all tonight. Shout out to the Idols family ❤️,” he wrote on Instagram.

The Club Controller hitmaker dramatically arrived to set in a helicopter and seems to have a female preference. He also said an important pointer for him is artists being able to express emotion through their music.

“I’m looking forward to seeing new exciting talent. I love female vocalists. You know, they’ve got a wider range and they can do whatever they want with their voice,” said Kaybee.

Gospel maestro, Ntokozo Mbambo is set to be the guest judge for next weeks episode of Idols SA.

Following his performance of Gugulethu on the Idols SA stage last season, Prince Kaybee got straight down to business. After watching his criticism, a Tweep thought he was too harsh for someone who “can’t even sing to save his life”.

However, some Tweeps enjoyed watching Kaybee on the judging panel.

Prince Kaybee also rubbed Tweeps the wrong way on Friday, 9 July when he shaded DJ Hazel Mahazard on Twitter, unprovoked. Hazel Mahazard is the woman who leaked Prince Kaybee’s nudes on Twitter but later issued a public apology following Kaybee taking legal action for revenge porn.

One of the other major talking points following the episode was Somizi’s hilarious explanation to a contestant on how to sing. Watch the hilarious clip here.
