Gallo Music Publishers secures deal to publish Oliver Mtukudzi’s music

Gallo Music Publishers have won a deal to publish world-renowned late Zimbabwean musician Oliver Mtukudzi’s music.

Gallo Music Publishers have won a deal to publish world-renowned late Zimbabwean musician Oliver Mtukudzi’s music.

No doubt, his rich music catalogue is a dream for many publishers.

GALLO MUSIC TO PUBLISH MTUKUDZI’S CATALOGUE

The late award-winning singer died at the age of 66 in 2019.

Upon his untimely death, he doubled as a human-rights activist and Unicef Goodwill Ambassador for Southern Africa.

His illustrious career was capped with several international accolades.

With a career spanning decades, he had 63 albums and several smash hits, which include:

  • Todii
  • Wasakara
  • Ndakuvara
  • Neria
  • Mutserendende

However, the deal over his music rights will see Gallo having the right to monetise his music.

It will also allow the company to generate opportunities for his music compositions.

SowetanLive reports that Gallo Music was beaming with joy over the new deal.

Gallo Music GM Rob Cowling said: “We are overjoyed to sign Tuku Music to a publishing deal. After such a long-standing relationship, beginning with its roots at Sheer Sound, which is owned by Gallo Music since 2014, representing Oliver Mtukudzi’s recordings and digital sales, it feels like coming full circle.”

Of interest is the fact that the publishers have been heavily associated with Mtukudzi’s recordings and digital sales since 2014.

The company hopes to maintain and push his music catalogue.

Back home, he was a celebrated icon who addressed topical issues through music.

He has been credited for nurturing several artists at his famous Pakare Paye Arts Centre 40km west of Harare.
