AKA’S FAMILY ACCEPT AKA’S AWARDS ON HIS BEHALF

The 35-year-old musician who was murdered in cold blood in Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal, in February, won the Best Collaboration award for his hit song titled Lemons (Lemonade) featuring Nasty C on the night at Mbombela stadium in Mpumalanga.

A brave and confident Kairo, who is only seven years old, walked up to the stage with her grandparents and sang her late father’s winning song as she asked the audience to sing along with her.

AKA’s mom, Lynn, was emotional as she thanked her son and told him how proud she was of him. Glammy, as she is affectionately known, also thanked family, fans and friends for the support.

“Thank you, Kiernan, thank you for showing us how to pursue your dreams while being dedicated, having passion and living a life with a full heart,” his father, Tony, said.

The late rapper was the biggest winner with four awards in the Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration Song, Best Hip Hop Artist and Best Male Artist categories.

FANS DEFEND KAIRO

While everything about AKA’s win and his family’s acceptance speach moved many, some trolls were focused on Kairo’s dress code. The little girl, whom AKA shares with DJ and producer, Ntombizinhle “DJ Zinhle” Jiyane, wore a cute white vest, check pants, a blue hoodie and cream shoes. However, some Tweeps felt that her family could have dressed her theme or awards-appropriate.

In Kairo’s defense, however, fans said that she was dressed age-appropriately.

“Kairo should not be subjected to dress a particular way just because she’s attending an awards show, she is a child,” @aunty_TeeTee said.

“Kairo was there to honour her father❤️Not impress the fashion Industry!” @buddha_thee wrote.

“I love the fact that they dressed Kairo like a kid she is😍 they don’t need to dress her according to people’s standards. You people are sick for actually judging the way she was dressed,” @real_precious_m said.

“Kairo is a child and was dressed exactly like a child should,” @balute_phile replied to another troll.
