EMTEE WANTED TO PROVE HIS INNOCENCE

However, Emtee’s lawyer, Dumisani Motsamai, said that while they welcome the withdrawal, the rapper has mixed emotions because he has been robbed of the opportunity to prove his innocent before the court.

“There will always be this cloud hanging over his head that he is a woman basher regardless of the charges being withdrawn. This is the image he will forever carry in the court of public opinion. The withdrawal of the charges by the complainant is there- fore met with mixed emotions by the accused,” his lawyer wrote in a statement to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

In addition, the Corner Store rapper’s team reportedly rejected the NPA’s push for anger management classes. His lawyer said that although a diversion programme is not considered punishment, it is a form of rehabilitation for past offenders and his client does not tick that box.

“It is an intervention that is typically offered as an alternative sentence to accused people whom the court believes ought to be afforded an opportunity to be corrected and thereafter be reintegrated back into society,” Motsamai wrote.
