South African singer Zahara is one of the thousands of people who have seemingly lost faith in the ANC. The Loliwe singer has switched her allegiance from the ruling party and shown her support for the EFF. On Sunday 26 September she performed at the party’s manifesto while wearing the party’s signature colour.

Zahara sings for the EFF

In 2012 Zahara was one of the singers who performed at the ANC’s 100th birthday party. In the years that followed the singer graced the stage at a number of ANC manifestos and events even writing some songs for the occasions.

Fast-forward to 2021 and the singer has switched sides. On Sunday last week, she performed a special song for the party while wearing a red and black dress – the EFF’s colours.

In the song, she can be heard singing: “How will we know if the EFF will do good or bad if we don’t give them a chance.”

South Africans share their thoughts

Naturally, after spotting the singer on the EFF stage, many South Africans were left buzzing as they discussed the artist’s change in direction. Many of them pointed it out while others welcomed her decision to try something else.

“This song by Zahara at the #EFFManifestoLaunch has left ANC supporters miserable and dejected. They really think they own these artists. I think the only artist they’re left with now is Arthur. #EFFManifestoLaunch2021.”

“You know South Africans won’t let go of the ANC by the negativity and outcry surrounding Zahara and her allegiance to the EFF. #EFFManifestoLaunch.”

The singer speaks out

After watching what was happening on her timeline, Zahara spoke out against those who criticised her for dumping the ANC. According to DispatchLive, the singer slammed those who were judging her while they also attend both EFF and ANC rallies.

‘You also attended ANC rallies,’ she says in the article.
