Norma Mngoma to appear in court for alleged car damage

Socialite and businesswoman Norma Mngoma is set to face trial for allegedly damaging a car belonging to her ex-husband Malusi Gigaba’s friend Thapelo Tsepe.

NORMA FACING TRIAL FOR ALLEGEDLY DAMAGING A MERCEDES

According to City Press, the former minister of finance’s ex-wife will appear at the Pretoria High Court after she denied in her affidavit that she had damaged the luxury Mercedes Benz G-Wagon.

In July 2020, a video of the damaged circulated on social media after reports that Mngoma caught Gigaba cheating on her. Mngoma was arrested on malicious damage to property and crimen injuria charges.

However, the charges were withdrawn in March 2021. Five months later, Tshepe pursued a civil case against Mngoma compelling her to pay R449 864.88 in damages. The court order revealed that she allegedly scratched the body and paint of the car, broke the rear and front lights of the car.

MNGOMA DENIES DAMAGING THE CAR

Mngoma, however, denied damaging Tshepe’s car.

“In the event that the honourable court finds that the defendant’s conduct was unlawful and or wrongful, which is still denied, then in that event the defendant denies that her conduct caused the damage to the value of R449 864.88.

“Therefore, the defendant seeks that the plaintiff’s claim be dismissed with costs,” reads the papers.

Tshepe’s lawyer Norman Montjane, told the publication that they held a pre-trial and the matter is ready for hearing.

“The date was applied for, but has not [yet been] allocated.

“We hope to receive a trial date soon. On the prospects of success, we are positive.

The damages to the car were done by the defendant and our client insists that she knew who the car belonged to.”
