Sky Sports News were forced to apologise live on-air after South African-born anchor Melissa Reddy used expletives on air.

The TV personality used foul language ahead of the Manchester United match against Wolves on Monday, 14 August.

Speaking about United’s new goalkeeper Andre Onana’s debut and his relationship with coach Eric Ten Hag, Reddy said: “He feels that in Onana, he has signed a big personality. We’ve already seen glimpses of that. Him b******ing his defenders when they’ve made a mistake. He is calm and assured that both players will drive United to the next level.”

Her co-host, Vicky Gommersall, was quick to interject, replying: “Just going to apologise to anyone if they were offended by the use of your language there.”

Here are five things to know about Melissa Reddy.

1. SHE WAS BORN IN JOHANNESBURG

Melissa Reddy was reportedly born in Johannesburg. She studied at the University of Witwatersrand (Wits), where she obtained a degree in Media and Communications.

The South African sports pundit became a senior Sky Sports and Sky Sports News reporter in March 2022 when she left her role as the Senior Football Correspondent at The Independent.

2. SHE IS ALLEGEDLY SADIO MANE’S RUMOURED GIRLFRIEND

Last year, it was widely reported that she and former Liverpool and Bayern Munich player Sadio Mane were a couple. The pair reportedly met while Melissa Reddy worked as a Liverpool correspondent during Mane’s days at Anfield in England.

3. SHE IS AN AUTHOR

In 2020, Reddy released her first book, Believe Us: How Jürgen Klopp Transformed Liverpool Into Title Winners. The book came after Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp as the manager, won the UEFA Champions League in 2019.

4. MELISSA REDDY IS AN ANTI-RACISM AND ANTI-SEXISM ACTIVIST

According to The Sun, Reddy has been outspoken on issues regarding sexism and racism. She has previously discussed the challenges that women face in the workplace.

In 2022, she went viral on social media after criticising FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s speech.

“I think this will be the World Cup that really underpins just how dirty the game is,” she said about the speech.

5. MELISSA REDDY PLAYED SPORTS

Reddy grew up in a sports background and spent her childhood mostly playing cricket, football and watching rugby.
