It’s no secret that South Africa has not one but two national anthems, with the second being the popular track Sister Bethina. And naturally, it had to be played at the Springboks vs. Wallabies match at Loftus on Saturday…

The SA national team clinched a victory against Australia in the kick-off of the Rugby Championship.

SISTER BETHINA’ ROCKS LOFTUS

While the crowd at Loftus Versfeld were already in high spirits ahead of the Springboks’ victory, it was the sound of Sister Bethina blasting through the speakers that put them into overdrive.

The famous song  – recorded by Mgarimbe – played directly after the SA national anthem.

In a clip posted on social media, Big Brother Titans winner Kosi Twala is seen in the Loftus stands vibing to the popular track.

Sister Bethina – which was released in 2006 – is named after a fictional character from SABC 2 series Soul City, played by veteran actress Lillian Dube. According to Mgarimbe, the song was accidentally recorded after a drunken night out.

“I just took the mic and started singing,” he told SA Music Mag.
