Photos of Kaizer Chiefs’ new Kappa kit has been leaked on social media…and many fans think it’s a near-identical look to the Springboks’ new jerseys.

The soccer jersey – reportedly for the 23/24 season – marks the return of the Italian sportswear sponsor after more than two decades of Nike designs.

Meanwhile, the Springboks also recently showed off their new kits, breaking away from Asics to join Nike.

KAIZER CHIEFS VS SPRINGBOKS?

This week, a picture of the home and away Kaizer Chiefs kit appeared on social media.

The home kit – which boasted the team’s official colours of yellow and black – was reminiscent of earlier Kappa designs from the 90s.

However, the away kit was a completely new look for Amakhosi fans. With yellow and green, the jersey closely resembled the Springboks’ new Nike kit.

HOME KIT GETS THE THUMBS UP

Meanwhile, the leaked home Kaizer Chiefs kits were compared to a nostalgic look from the 90s.

And perhaps, that’s precisely the look Kappa – which sponsored the teams’ 1989 – 1996 looks – was going for.

Last year, Amakhosi marketing director Jessica Motaung said on their partnership in a statement: “We are excited to team up with Kappa once again, a brand with which Kaizer Chiefs set new records and established itself as trendsetters in African football in the early 1990s.”

Kappa South Africa CEO Michael Joseph added that the brand was confident it would restore the team’s glory days, as previously experienced.

He added: “Kappa, together with Kaizer Chiefs, are going to reinstall the romance of the 1990s and deliver something extraordinary to these fans.”
