Move over, Drake! Another US star is crushing on Uncle Waffles

The US singer, who was recently in the country for Rocking The Daisies, revealed that she thinks Uncle Waffles is ‘fiiiiiine’.

Uncle Waffles, real name Lungelihle Zwane, has captured many South African with her beauty and DJing skills. After her viral video last year where she was entertaining her audience with her set, she became a household name — even catching the attention of US rapper Drake.

But, Drake is not the only US musician who is loving Uncle Waffles right now. During an interview with former rapper Slikour on his podcast On The Ground on Wednesday 12 October, Kehlani revealed that the she thinks the Tanzania hitmaker is “fiiiiiine”.

Kehlani, who was in the country for Rocking The Daisies in Cape Town between 7 and 9 October, opened up to the Skwatta Kamp member about the inspiration for her art covers from her first mixtapes to her debut album.

The Nights Like This hitmaker also got to learn exactly how her South African fans pronounce her name, which is different to the rest of her fans pronounce it.

When asked about her favourite artist in South Africa, Kehlani did not hesitate to respond that she is feeling Uncle Waffles.

“Waffles! She’s fiiiiiine. It’s not just a me thing, right? We’re all in agreement that Uncle Waffles is bad,” Kehlani said excitedly.

The use of the word “bad,” in this instance, is a compliment that emphasises how great the musician is.

According to Out.com, Kehlani has long been out, and has identified as queer and bisexual before. She previously stated that she was not a lesbian, despite being labelled that way by fans and press.

In 2018 she posted a video talking about representing the LGBTQ+ community where she said, “never have I identified as a lesbian. You guys kinda saw me publicly date a woman – which I’ve done before, multiple times, you just haven’t peeped – and ran with it.” 

In a 2020 interview with Diva Magazine, the mom-of-one said, “I’m definitely on the non-binary scale. But I still prefer and am totally fine with the pronoun ‘she’.” She added “My energy has always been extremely fluid between masculine and feminine so that’s why I use ‘queer’, and also, queer is inclusive to non-binary people.”

The singer also recently came out as using both she and they pronouns.

During her Instagram live in July this year, the Uncle Waffles came out to her fans as bisexual — meaning she dates both men and women.

“I am bisexual. But I am in a heterosexual relationship,” Uncle Waffles told her fans.
