HOW DR NANDIPHA MAGUDUMANA CLAIMED THE BODY

The publication adds that a hospital body claim form containing a copy of Dr Nandipha Magudumana’s identity document shows that she signed Katlego Bereng’s body to be released to her and told hospital staff that the body was her brother’s Nkosinathi Sekeleni.

A Free State detective discovered records containing Katlego Bereng’s fingerprints at National Hospital in Bloemfontein.

A police source says the discovery of Bereng’s fingerprint records and the body claim form were a major breakthrough in the case.

Police spokesperson Brig Athlenda Mathe confirmed Bereng was identified through a direct DNA match but did not respond to questions on the processes undertaken to identify his body,

Magudumana, former G4S warder Senohe Matsoara, prison CCTV camera operator Teboho Lipholo and Motenyane Masukela are to appear in Bloemfontein magistrate’s court on Wednesday, 3 May 2023 for their bail applications.

HOW DID KATLEGO BERENG DIE?

A source revealed to Sunday Times that police were investigating how Katlego Bereng died and how he got his head injured before Dr Nandipha claimed his body.

“We know Magudumana claimed Bereng’s body twice. The first time was at the hospital and the second time was at the mortuary after the fire, where she claimed the charred body by saying it was her father, a truck driver who had gone missing.”

His aunt Ipopeng Mojabane told the publication that he left his grandmother with a friend to Central Park, a city in Manguang.

Mojabana said paramedics were called by strangers, who found him lying unconscious in the street and was taken to the hospital where he later died.

“This is what the police have told us. He was taken there as an unknown person.” At the time his body was found both his wallet and cellphone were missing”.

Sunday Times adds that the police and Bereng’s family confirmed he suffered from hyperglycaemia, which can cause fainting.

The Citizen reports an autopsy conducted in May 2022 before the body was identified as Katelego’s also showed that he had died due to blunt force trauma to the head and was already dead before the prison caught fire.

“A skull fracture and associated intracranial haemorrhage, complicated by pressure effects on the brain”.
