‘My Story’: Derick Hougaard set for motivational talk – at a price

Derick Hougaard has announced plans to tell his story of his hellish hospital to his fans – at a price. The former Springboks and Blue Bulls player shared the news in a Facebook post.

In June, the former Springboks player made headlines after he was hospitalised after a lung infection and placed on a ventilator. He has since been discharged.

DERICK HOUGAARD ANNOUNCES MOTIVATIONAL TALK

In what appears to be a once-off event, Derick Hougaard shared news of his motivational talk titled “My Story.”

The retired rugby player will address his fans at the Barnyard Theatre in Menlyn Park on 22 August. Tickets cost R250 per person and all funds will go towards Derick himself.

According to the Barnyard Theatre, Derick’s talk will cover the highs and lows of his career and personal life.

A description of the show read: “Life started throwing curveballs at Derick, first an injury that ended his career, the loss of a child, a very public divorce and several scandalous stories that kept him on the front page of the newspapers and magazines.

“Derick somehow survived this too. And then tragedy struck him again. Derick contracted pneumonia and had to spend 21 days in the intensive care unit of a hospital. No one thought he would survive this. But again, he did.

“So what is it about Derick Hougaard, the Darling of Loftus, that gets him back on his feet every time? Come listen to Derick’s incredible story of survival and find out what hard lessons life has taught him”.

HEALTH UPDATE AFTER HOSPITAL STAY

Meanwhile, Derick Hougaard’s partner Nadine has shared a health update following a health scare that landed him in ICU. According to the Afrikaans singer, the retired rugby star is walking the long road of recovery.

In a recent interview with Groot FM, Nadine described Derick’s health recovery as “emotionally traumatic” and intense.”

Derick was admitted to the Steve Biko Academic Hospital, where he was diagnosed with aspirational pneumonia. Doctors reportedly gave him a “50/50” chance of survival. Fast forward to present day, and the Afrikaans singer – who has launched new music offering called Kleure – claimed the 40-year-old was still adjusting to life after the scare..

She said: “His health is not the same as before. It’s a long process to regain your energy and strengthen your lungs.”.

Nadine also claimed that the incident had taken a psychological toll on him after “missing a month of life.”

Although “thin and weak,” Derick is undergoing therapy and rehabilitation to regain his health.
