Veteran music producer Sello “Chicco” Twala was arrested on Monday 2 May for allegedly assaulting a City Power technician and pointing a gun at him on Sunday evening. Reacting to his arrest, Twala told SowetanLIVE that it was a “victory” for those who “portray him as a mafia who is behind Senzo Meyiwa’s killing”.

CHICCO TWALA POINTS GUN AT CITY POWER TECHNICIAN

As per SowetanLIVE, Twala allegedly assaulted and pointed a gun at a City Power technician outside his Bloubosrand home in Johannesburg north. The technician was in the area to look at a power outage that had affected the suburb for a few days.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena told the publication: “The teams told him they have every right to be there and work on the network on the pavement where municipal servitude runs.”

“The resident is said to have pulled out a gun, cocked it and put it to the head of one of the contractors. He then slapped him and choked him, pinning him to the ground. The community intervened and rescued our team and we decided to leave without doing the repairs.”

Police reportedly confiscated two toy guns.

CITY POWER TECHNICIAN WAS ‘SHAKEN’

According to one of Twala’s neighbours, one of the City Power technicians was so shaken up that he ran away. His colleagues drove around to look for him but found that he had already left the area.

“The technicians had their test units there and were ready to work but their neighbour disrupted their operations by pulling out a gun,” the anonymous neighbour added.

‘HAVE FUN AND CELEBRATE MY ARREST’

The 59-year-old music producer told the publication that his arrest is a “victory” for him and a “defeat” for the “evil” people who have linked him to Bafana Bafana captain and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa’s tragic death in October 2014.

“Finally I got arrested for pointing a toy gun [at] two men whom I thought were cable thieves who caused a blackout to six houses at my recording studios.

“I am texting from my cell as we speak, waiting for my lawyers to bail me…To my haters, have fun and celebrate my arrest.”
