Cassper Nyovest’s tribute to long-time friend Riky Rick didn’t go according to plan. In fact, many have argued that it has backfired dismally…

The AMN hitmaker broke his silence on Riky’s death in a tweet posted on Friday, 25 February.

The industry colleagues were rumoured to be at odds during periods of their career.

CASSPER SHARES RIKY RICK TRIBUTE

Taking to both Instagram and Twitter, Cassper shared an old picture of Riky Rick embracing him. The picture was supposedly taken during a media interview with Cass.

He wrote in the caption: “As a man, I am very uncomfortable with another man touching me or worse, being behind me. So when Riky creeped up behind me in the middle of an interview, what I really wanna do is turn around and ask ‘Which one is this one now’ lol… But when I heard his voice I chilled”.

TWEEPS LABEL IT ‘HOMOPHOBIC’

Unfortunately for Cassper, as best he intended his tribute to come across, many tweeps took offence to the wording. Some even labelled it “homophobic”.

“Cassper Nyovest isn’t getting away with this I’m afraid and the gymnastics trying to defend that caption ain’t it either. It’s homophobic that’s it”

“The most weird caption ever.. What’s wrong with being touched by another man.. Y’all think too much,,,, I only understand to people who never had boys as siblings… Or your house never hosted cousins”

“Cassper sounds homophobic as hell”

“Cassper Nyovest said exactly what he said and he displayed fragile masculinity and homophobic behavior from his caption”

“There’s a difference between bullying Cassper and holding him accountable for his words. That caption is homophobic I’m not here to argue with y’all”

Others defended the rapper, saying the caption was taken out of context due to limited characters on Twitter.

Some fans of the rapper also found his wording to be perfectly acceptable.

One tweep posted: “People are wild to jump to homophobia. A lot of men and women dont like people creeping up from behind. I naturally jump up or hit. Even without the full text I know what he meant. But its Twitter we just wait to project at any moment even when someone is hurting”.

Cassper clapped back at the criticism tweeting: “Yall wasting your time with me. I’ve long gotten over this hill. Bash away! I simply don’t give a f***! The same way yall don’t give a f*** about me or my pain, I don’t give a f***! God knows my heart, I am free!”
