The Springboks went into the history books of World Rugby, becoming the second nation to win back-to-back finals after the All Blacks.

The Springboks won the ninth edition of the Rugby World Cup in Japan in 2019. At this year’s Rugby World Cup edition, the Springboks edged the All Blacks 12-11 in a close contest final at the Stade de France, Paris.

SOUTH AFRICA GOES DOWN IN THE HISTORY BOOKS AFTER RWC WIN

Their win against the All Blacks saw them being the first men’s team to secure four victories in the Rugby World Cup finals. They have undoubtedly achieved this remarkable feat in the eight Rugby World Cups they’ve participated in, which is less than other teams.

During the final, Handre Pollard was the difference, as he converted all the penalties for the Springboks. No doubt the All Blacks tried their best but failed to be clinical on goal after missing two penalties.

ALL BLACKS CONGRATULATE THE SPRINGBOKS

In the backdrop of the win, the All Blacks congratulated the Boks via social media. The All Blacks shared two congratulatory posts, one from Mark Robinson, the New Zealand Rugby CEO.

In the other post, the All Blacks shared a photo of their squad praising them for their heroics and shared a note of congratulatory to the Springboks. Taking to Instagram, New Zealand Rugby Union posted: “They gave it everything, but not to be for our team. Congratulations on making history, South Africa.”

After the 2023 Rugby World Cup final defeat, the second-ranked nation took a swipe at officials after the defeat. New Zealand media and pundits alleged that the final was marred with inconsistent calls that took a toll on the result.
