Mimi Mahlasela grateful for ‘7de Laan’ and ‘Shaka Ilembe’ roles

Popular actress, Mimi Mahlasela discusses her characters in the Mzansi Magic drama series Shaka Ilembe and 7de Laan.

MIMI MAHLASELA: ‘I’M HERE SPEAKING AFRIKAANS AND ISIZULU’

The actress Mimi Mahlasela, who is famously known for her role as Aggie in 7de Laan revealed to TshisaLIVE that she’s grateful for the Shaka Ilembe role.

Mahlasela adds that they shot the hit Mzansi Magic drama series in 2022, she was between sets, and it was amazing.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity Bomb gave me. It was taxing emotionally, mentally and physically because I was in two different cities. I’m here speaking Afrikaans and there speaking isiZulu, but I’m grateful.”

It was an amazing experience, a beautiful production, an amazing stellar cast and the crew was just exceptional,” she said. 

The multilingual actress also reveals to the publication that she’s been guided by a lot of prayer and her ancestors through her acting journey.

She secured her 7de Laan role after university and ventured on to do other things including theatre, Shaka iLembe amongst other projects.

‘SHAKA ILEMBE’ BACKGROUND

The 7de Laan actress Mimi Mahlasela played the character of Langeni Elder Aunt in Shaka Ilembe alongside actress Nomzamo Mbatha, who portrays the role of Shaka’s mother Queen Nandi.

The hit drama series is set in the late 1700s and 1800s and explores the rise of King Shaka Zulu (Lemogang Tsipa), Senzo Radede who plays his father King Senzangakhona kaJama and more stars.

According to DStv, Shaka was born the illegitimate and unwanted son of the lesser-known chief of a small Zulu chiefdom. But as a young warrior, he gathered around him a group of eager tribesmen that he forged into one of the Zulu nation’s greatest armies.

He is highly skilled, clinical, ruthless and controversial leader, who built the Zulu empire into an impenetrable fortress, before his brutal assassination by his half-brothers.
