A year since Riky Rick’s death: Cotton Fest to celebrate his life

The late South African rapper Riky Rick’s life will be celebrated tomorrow at the Cotton Festival in Johannesburg, one year after his death.

Tomorrow, 23 February, will mark a year since the late Riky Rick—real name Rikhado Makhado passed on, and his legacy has not been forgotten by many who commented in the comment section of a post added to the Cotton Fest page on Instagram today announcing a tribute event that will be held to remember the late South African rapper’s legacy.


According to In Your Pocket, Cotton Festival was founded by Riky Rick, and it aims to “celebrate South African talent by bringing together a high-octane lineup of local artists, musicians, rappers, and DJs.”

“Cotton Eaters, let’s get together to remember the life of Riky Rick on Thursday, 23 February, at Newtown Junction – 100 Carr Street, Newtown 🕊️

“WE NEVER DIE, WE MULTIPLY!” the post wrote.

The iconic local musician took his own life at the age of 34, BBC reported.

Riky Rick reportedly took his own life at his estate home in the north of Johannesburg, The South African previously reported. The Ungaz’ncishi hitmaker had reportedly suffered from severe depression and was found hanging from a rope. The iconic rapper was still alive when his managers found him. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but sadly died on the way.

Riky Rick’s legacy continues to live on as many fans and musicians still uplift his name. Earlier this month, Black Coffee was seen sending a tribute to the star in a Twitter post.
