Woolworths prides itself on its impeccable quality and food standards…but like many mass retailers, it isn’t exempt from the odd customer experience.
In recent months, Woolies shoppers have discovered rats, frogs, worms, and even snakes in their favourite foods and in-store.

FROG FOUND IN PACKET OF SPINACH
In the latest incident to go viral, Johannesburg woman Connie Bhebhe discovered a live frog in her packet of spinach.
“Ixoxo [frog],” the woman says in a viral video of the tiny creature. Tagging the retailer, she captioned the clip: “Please explain”.
While Bhebhe appreciated the farm’s fresh produce – which she ordered via their Dash App, she wasn’t a fan of the four-legged visitor.

She added: “He survived in there for two days eating spinach.”
According to Bhebe, Woolies is “investigating” the incident.

In May, another female shopper discovered a live rat in the frozen chicken section of her local Gardens Shopping Centre store in Cape Town.

After the video found its way onto Twitter, the retailer replied to the social media backlash. In a statement issued to The South African, Woolworths profusely apologised to their shoppers.
It said of their actions: “The store immediately underwent a forensic deep clean and was closed early to allow for a thorough investigation”.

Woolworths added that they were “deeply committed” to high standards of hygiene and food safety.
