SA responds to Woolworths ‘going cashless’?

‘Are they meant for the elite only?’ South Africans took to social media to react to ‘Woolworths going cashless’.

Is Mzansi’s favourite retailer Woolworths aka Woolies going cashless from Tuesday, 16 January?

WOOLWORTHS: ‘GOING CASHLESS’?

Social media user @jvnaidoo1 took to X on Sunday, 7 January to share a Woolworths announcement about their stores “going cashless”.

The post read: “We’re going cashless. From 16 January, we would no longer accept cash as we’ve joined global responsible business that priorities customers and staff safety. We are sorry for any inconvenience.”

While some South Africans were against the retailer “going cashless”, some applauded them.

@faithrine tweeted: “It’s not about customer safety, they want to save on money handling expenses: counting, transportation and banking fees. Good for them, not us.”

Whie @jvnaidoo1 said: “Woolworths is excessively expensive. Are they meant for the elite only?”

@Jennifer Wessels revealed on Facebook: “This is in Australia! So why lie?”

@warrenfer1 said: “Not Woolworths, the little cafes attached to them, zoom in on the logo.”

The South African reached out to Woolworths South Africa on Sunday for a comment, who were not available at the time of publishing this article.
