HPCSA, Wits, Nandos distance themselves from ‘Dr Matthews Lani’

Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), Nandos and Wits have distanced themselves from ‘fake doctor’ Dr Matthews Lani.

The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) confirms popular Tiktoker “Dr Matthews Lani” is not a registered medical practitioner.

HPCSA: ‘WE DISTANCE OURSELEVES FROM MR ZINGELWA LANI’

HPCSA reveals in a statement on social media that they dissociate itself from Mr Zingelwa-Lani and that his name does not appear in their register of health practitioner’s.

“The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) has noted with concern, a video of Mr Mathews Zingelwa-Lani which has gone viral on social media platforms. In the widely circulated video, Mr Mathews Zingelwa-Lani claims to have been authorised by the HPCSA to make and distribute his video.”

“The HPCSA would like to put it on record that no authorisation has been granted to Mr Mathews Zingelwa-Lani to make statements on behalf our Council stating that he’s a registered practitioner.”

IOL reports that the TikTok doctor, who routinely sports a stethoscope around his neck could find himself in hot water with authorities after Wits University also distanced itself from him.

WITS, NANDOS, FUTURE LIFE SPEAKS ON ALLEGED FAKE DOCTOR

WITS has requested the TikToker and influencer “Dr Matthew Lani” to retract his claims that he studied there with immediate effect.

This is after ‘Dr Matthew Lani’s’ claimed he studied medicine (MBBS) at Wits between 2014 and 2021. However, Wits does not offer an MBBS degree, but it does offer a MBBCh degree.

“Following claims made by “Dr Matthew Lani” on social media and based on the facts at hand. Wits cannot find any person who graduated by the name of Matthew Bongani Zingelwa or Sanele Zingelwa in recent years,” said the university.

NANDOS AND FUTURE LIFE

@futurelifeza and @NandosSA have also distanced themselves from the “fake doctor” after he revealed on his LinkedIN profile that he is their brand ambassador. The Gauteng Health Department has also removed the video of him posted to X on Youth Day last year.
