Who is Dr Qwabe? Meet the smoking, dancing sensation [watch]

Dr Qwabe – or Dr Phara as he likes to call himself – has been a source of great entertainment on TikTok. But for the smoking, drinking, and dancing medical doctor – real name Sandile Qwabe – criticism comes with the territory.

While many South Africans are fans of his content creation, others have admonished the medical personnel for his behaviour and appearance in public and on social media.

DR QWABE COURTS CONTROVERSY

On Twitter, many tweeps have openly criticised Dr Qwabe of Newcastle for his bold and eccentric videos. Others have issues with his casual dress sense, chain-smoking practice, and “inappropriate” behaviour both on and off duty.

However, the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) has denied rumours that the doctor has faced any disciplinary action as a result.

Speaking to Tshisalive, a spokesperson claimed that they were only inclined to act if there were concerns about comprised integrity or dignity of the doctor.

On the flip side, many tweeps have defended the unconventional doctor.
