SUPPLY FAILURE AT MAPLETON BOOSTER SYSTEM IN EKURHULENI

This comes after a power supply failure at Rand Water’s Mapleton booster station in Ekurhuleni, which affected the Vlakfontein reservoir, that feeds into Tshwane.

The loss of water supply was because Rand Water had to fix a major water leak at their B8 pipeline between the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant, and an electricity interruption at the Mapleton Booster Pumping Station on Wednesday.

Tshwane Water spokesperson Themba Fosi said the ongoing stage 6 load shedding is also adding to the issues.

“The utility had a flooding incident at their Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant. This was followed by power interruptions from Eskom to Rand Water’s Mapleton Booster Pumping Station on Friday, 14 April. This lasted until Sunday 16 April , when the electricity was restored in the early morning hours.”

According to Fosi, the system will need at least a week to fully recover.
