Troubled SABC soapie suspends cast via WhatsApp

Danie Odendaal Productions suspended 7de Laan’s production with immediate effect and informed the cast not to report to work via WhatsApp.

7de Laan is making headlines after it was revealed that the cast and crew were suspended via WhatsApp.

Danie Odendaal Productions suspended the soapie’s day-to-day business and informed the cast and crew not to report to work via WhatsApp.

Reports have it that the messages were sent on Sunday, 3 September. The decision comes barely a few months after it was revealed that the soapie was ending this year after two decades of airing.

In July, it was announced that the Afrikaans drama series was not recommissioned for another season and would end on 24 December 2023.

However, in the backdrop of the news, the drama series has been dealt with another blow, which might see the soapie ending earlier than expected.

According to IOL, the production company Odendaal Productions revealed that the management had decided to suspend all normal operations with immediate effect due to financial woes.

It was also revealed that the decision was based on insufficient funds to maintain salaries and other day-to-day operational requirements.

SABC SOAPIE SUSPENDS CAST VIA WHATSAPP

Rumour mill has it that SABC was struggling to pay them on time, and this seemingly took a toll on the production as they couldn’t maintain the daily production requirements.

Part of the letter that circulated on WhatsApp reads: “Your are not required to be at the production studios until further notice. Management will communicate as soon as possible of when you can resume with your normal duties.

“Please also be reminded that the principle of no work no pay applies as per the contractual terms and conditions.”
