‘This could be the end’ – 7de Laan suspends production with immediate effect

Danie Odendaal Productions pulled a shocker when it revealed that SABC2 Afrikaans soapie 7de Laan had stopped shooting because of lack of funding.

In a shocking development that has left soapie lovers in despair, Danie Odendaal Productions has revealed that the management has decided to suspend all operations with immediate effect because of insufficient funds to maintain salaries and other related operational businesses.

CANCELLED AFTER TWO DECADES

Confirmed reports have it that the cast and crew were informed about the decision via WhatsApp on Sunday, 3 September.

No doubt, the news comes barely a few months after it was revealed that the soapie will end this year.

In July, the production revealed that the drama series would not be recommissioned for another season.

In the backdrop of the news, it was reported that the drama series will air its last episode on 24 December 2023. However, the drama series might end earlier than proposed with new developments.

7DE LAAN SUSPENDS PRODUCTION

Reports have it that SABC has been struggling to make payments on time, making it difficult for the production to maintain the daily requirements.

Part of the now-viral letter to the cast reads: “Your are not required to be at the production studios until further notice. Management will communicate as soon as possible of when you can resume with your normal duties.

“Please also be reminded that the principle of no work no pay applies as per the contractual terms and conditions.”

Several lead actors have taken to social media to take a swipe at the soapie for disrespecting them. Many believe suspending them via WhatsApp was disrespectful and unheard of.
