If you missed South Africa’s last Blue Supermoon for the year, you’ll have to wait until much later to see it again!

Blue Supermoons are special events. They only happen once every while, and the blue part refers to the fact that there will be TWO full moons during this 2024 event.

When is the BLUE SUPERMOON for 2024?

According to Space.com, the next supermoon is only on 18 September, 2024.

If you missed the last Harvest Supermoon in 2023, that’s how long you’ll have to wait to see a special lunar event again.

What is a blue supermoon?

The type of moon we’ll see in September 2024, is a special type of lunar event for two important reasons.

A supermoon means that this lunar event wil make the moon appear brighter and somewhat bigger to observers on Earth. The blue part means that there are two full lunar events in the same month: that’s something that doesn’t happen every day – or every month!

Careful during these times of the year, too.

According to Weather.com, the supermoon can be one of the reasons why high tides flare up during some times of the year. Because of the “pull effect” that the moon has on water, it causes tides to rise – and makes flood events more likely.
