The “SA hip-hop is dead” debate was sparked after several local rappers spread their wings to ride the amapiano wave. Local hip-hop fans were not impressed but one rapper who came in hot to prove that hip-hop is still alive was Nasty C. He was featured on Canadian rapper Dax’s new single and local hip-hop fans say Nasty C, “understood the assignment.”

Since signing with American record label Def Jam Recordings, Nasty C has collaborated with several American artists including rappers, T.I, Lil Keed, Lil Gotit, and R&B songstress Ari Lennox.

The 24-year-old rapper teamed up with Canadian rapper Dax on a new single titled 40 days 40 Nights. Dax is known for his remixes of Tupac’s songs, All Eyez On Me and Changes. The 27-year-old rapper also stirred the pot with a diss track aimed at Tory Lanez.

The single release was accompanied by a music video shot by Logan Meis and Aser Santos Jr. Although he was only a guest feature on the single, Nasty C delivered some heavy bars and showed why he is one of South Africa’s best rappers.

“My life is a movie everybody trying to play me but I never take defeat because I made it out the pavement. I see snakes in the grass, goats in the studio, nobody really knows anybody that’s just for you to know,” raps Nasty.

The 40 Days 40 Nights music video is currently number eight on YouTube’s trending list.

South African hip-hop fans were impressed with Nasty C’s verse on Dax’s 40 Days 40 Nights. One tweep wrote that Nasty C is, “the best rapper in Africa” praising the collaboration.

Another tweep wrote: “Nasty C understood the assignment on Dax’s new track. He killed his verse.”

The rapper is collaborating with more rappers and the music is fire! Nasty C also collaborated with T.I’s son Domani on a track titled Friends off his new album Skydive.

Nasty C was nominated for a BET hip-hop award earlier this year for best international flow. This marked his second BET hip-hop nod but unfortunately, British rapper Little Simz scooped the award.

Although his fans were ecstatic about the nomination, he previously shared that awards don’t define them.

“I value them because they mean the world to my fans because my fans are the guys that sit at home and they watch the whole show, my fans are the ones that use their own airtime to vote for me and stuff like that.”
